Fraggle Rainbow by real-faker Fraggle Rainbow by real-faker
WHY AM I DRAWING THIS I SHOULD BE DRAWING OTHER THINGS

So I've had this idea in my head since earlier in the year that just WONT GO AWAY where like... I wanted to organize and arrange the 5 main characters of Fraggle Rock in some sort of color order.

Which was incredibly frustrating to think about because let's just say we're starting at red (the color, not the Fraggle). Obviously there's no red Fraggle but there's Red Fraggle who isn't really red in any way other than her sweater and I guess the fact that she's a ginger. So the next color up is orange and Gobo is orange but he's also got a lot of red and yellow on him (Just like Red). So you have to decide which attributes are more important; am I categorizing them by the color of their skin? The color of their hair? The color of their fur? The color of their clothes? Gobo and Red both have a lot of Red, Orange, and Yellow on them. So obviously (assuming we start at red) one of them will come first.
Gobo has pinkish/purple hair though, so then THAT sort of becomes the deciding factor.... he can connect to the pinkish/purple Mokey.... so then that settles that, but how do you show a connection through the colors? If they're all standing next to each other you still wouldn't get tha- they have to be arranged top to bottom. Ass to mouth. FRAGGLE CENTIPEDE.
So now they have to be all connected in a circle. Which works, because the whole concept of the show is this idea of interconnectedness and harmony and a bunch of hippie shit like that.
So okay Mokey goes into Gobo goes into Red who OBVIOUSLY GOES INTO WEMBLEY BECAUSE WEMBLEY IS YELLOW.
I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK AND I DON'T CARE HOW MANY TIMES THEY CALL HIM "THAT LITTLE GREEN ONE" IN THE ACTUAL SHOW, HE IS YELLOW.
I mean... isn't he?
He's got a little green-ish tint to him but he's more yellow than anything else... unless you're talking about his fur, which is very much a pukey-green color.
And then now this starts to really fuck with me because unless something's just wrong with my eyes, that means that CANONICALLY, Fraggles classify the colors of other Fraggles according to what color their fur is. Which I guess makes sense because their fur is on their mid-section which is the "base" of their bodies but you don't hardly ever SEE that much of them 'CUZ, YKNOW, THEY'RE PUPPETS.... and we tend to recognize faces first anyway.
SO then I just decide to stop thinking about it because ONE WAY OR ANOTHER he has to go next being that he is both yellowy and greeny.
And then Boober, don't get me started on Boober. Sometimes he looks more greenish and sometimes he looks more blueish so I guess it'd be appropriate to call him teal or turquoise. Whateverrwhatever he comes next.
And then we're back to Mokey and things are making perfect sense again because her hair color is that greenish/bluish which connects with Boober 'cause we're making the Fraggle Centipede and all and then she's purplish/pinkish which as I've already established connects with Gobo via hair 'cuz Fraggle Centipede and all that stuff and no one cares.

AND THERE YOU HAVE IT FOLKS.

I'll understand if you no longer wish to be my friend.

Also you should know that one of my layers was a Fraggle color wheel. With... all... my... swatches.
THERE I GO AGAIN

Enjoy!

Seriously, PLEASE don't tell me you guys read that. I just wanted to see how long I could carry on about nothing.

This would be awesome on a t-shirt!

I love the bright colours and the movement of it. :D  You've definitely done a good job making the colours fit together!

(And yes, Wembley is yellow. Also "teal" is correct for Boober.)

Poor Boober! I wanna give him a tour of the basement and feed him with a radish.

Ah, what the heck, all five are nice!

I'd adopt them all, but I'm busy!

Still ..............

I honestly haven't watched this show in forever. I remember I had a small obsession over Boober and then moved on in life. Very nice drawing, though. I read the entire description of this picture, and laughed so hard.

Carrying on about nothing is so entertaining. xD

oHHHH man, I have them on DVD. It's pretty great! They came with a bunch of special feature stuff (my faaaavoriiiite) and one of the seasons came with concept art and original sketches from Michael Frith! : D

I just used Photoshop... I WISH I were that comfortable in Flash. xD

Ahhh, I see.

Well if you're curious, the way I made this was basically just using the freeform selection tool in photoshop and then filling it in as a solid color... to make all the different shapes of them without outlines. And then if each shape is a different layer, there's a thing you can go to called "layer effects" or "layer styles" or something like that and "drop shadow" is an option that basically just puts a light shadow behind it so it almost looks like paper cut-outs or whatever. It was my first time messing around with that too, but it was fun! Hope that kinda made sense or helped explain it. XD

I'm not sure if you read any of the comments below (hopefully you don't have THAT much time to waste!) but I was explaining that this isn't even the half of it. I've seriously contemplated Fraggle relationships and sexuality, reproduction, family structure, aging process.... inconsistencies in the show itself.... none of it's ever really touched on so I'm just left to my own devices. DO YOU KNOW THE HELL I LIVE IN?!

DO THEY COME FROM EGGS? WHY ARE THERE ELDERLY FRAGGLES BUT NO BABY FRAGGLES? HOW OLD ARE THEY? WHY IS IT THAT WE NEVER SEE THEIR PARENTS BUT GOBO HAS AN UNCLE? These are the thoughts that plague my mind. DX

Dammit, my friends and I were naming all the old shows we used to watch like Ed Edd n Eddy, Cow & Chicken, Power Rangers, Teletubbies... and when I saw this I took a moment and was like, "Hm. This looks familiar. Muppets? /proceeds to read author's comment." Totally read the whole thing. :| Mentally kicked myself FOR NOT REMEMBERING THIS. FFFFF---
Anywho, pretty nifty how you arranged that thar. My mind was blown.

See, those are all like... completely different time-frames for me. Are your friends different ages? XD Fraggle Rock was early-80's which was a little bit before my time even, but I had them all on VHS 'cause my mom thought it was cute and recorded them for me. X)
But like, by the time Teletubbies came out I was old enough to be like "WHAT IS THIS SHIT??!" Hahaha. XD
And EEnE, Cow and Chicken... those were all late 90's and early 2000's, right? I dunno, I guess they've been playing older shows like Fraggle Rock in syndication so maybe it's like it never went away...? Maybe everyone else grew up with all these cartoons airing at the same time even though they were very clearly 10 years apart from each other because everyone else had cable and channels that'd rerun old shows and I didn't.
This doesn't make any sense to me! DX I guess that's what I get for not having cable the majority of my life. Haha.

Anyway, thanks so much! : D Sorry for my inane ramblings.

There were a few episodes of Fraggle Rock my sister had recorded on VHS too from the reruns they used to play sometime in the 90s, which is how I know about it. My friends are all around the same age (15-17) but we grew up with these cartoons. And what's not to know about with the internet around? There's always episodes of everything lying around somewhere. lol

Nawww I love your ramblings. 8D

Haha... well I suppose that's true. Obviously you can use the internet to watch anything and everything from any time period... I guess it just throws me off a tad because when I refer to my "childhood cartoons", I guess I need to remind myself that my childhood took place before the internet happened. XD So "childhood cartoons" to me would've been limited pretty much to whatever was on TV whenever it happened to be on. Even when the internet happened it wasn't exactly easy to find TV shows on it at first. I don't remember thinking "wow, I can use the internet for watching ANYTHING!" until about mid-highschool. XD
I remember wanting to watch season 0 of Yugioh and all you could find were these huuuuuuuge torrents and it wasn't even a torrent of the whole season, it was each episode (or maybe 2 episodes) per torrent file. Now I have a site bookmarked where I can watch it streaming.
And I'm not trying to play the BACK IN MYYYY DAAAAYYYY card, 'cause I hate when people do that who are only like, 5 or so years older.... but it's just marvelous to me how much has changed in that amount of time and how easy it is to access media now.

Awww man Yugioh. Used to watch that every saturday morning at 8. I've been meaning to marathon my way through all the episodes again. Never really got around to watching GX or 5D's. Hm, probably should to watch the movie.... And Digimon... Gundam... Sailor Moon.... Fighting Foodons....

Haha I haven't personally met anyone who's acted that way, but I see where you're coming from. Don't worry, you're not sounding that way at all. I'm also amazed how far technology has advanced. I still remember back when you recorded anything on VHS, the quality wasn't all that great but was still really homey. Now everything's so clear and HD and widescreen on DVD, it's... it's wow.

As long as I watched those cartoons back in my youngin' (3-9 yrs old-ish) days it's all good. Of course, a lot of my friends never heard of Fraggle Rock so they went on to look it up on the internet. (There were only 2 or 3 who've actually seen it) I think they might still play some reruns of it on television... I mean, I remember passing by this one channel that was playing very, very old episodes of Sesame Street & Veggie Tales. I ended up watching the mini marathon just for Elmo.

~Add the right ingredient to make your food obedient! Depending on the spice you add your foodon might be really baaaaaaaaaaad! bad bad baddd~
WHY DO I KNOW THAT OH GOD

Haha... I meet people who give me the "back in my day" schpeel who are actually YOUNGER THAN ME. And even the ones who are older than me... I mean, my parents read me this e-mail a year or so ago that was forwarded to them from another adult talking about "kids these days with all our technology and blahblah back in my day we had tape players and whatever stupid shit..." and like... the thing stated up-front that you wouldn't understand half of it unless you were over 30 or something and I'm sitting there thinking YEAH, I remember all of that too. 8I

For the record I'm okay with clarity and HD and widescreen... actually widescreen makes perfect sense because that's the theatrical format for films anyway. We've been squishing and cutting them down for decades to fit our stupidly proportioned TVs. XD But it get's to a point, at least, with the HD stuff... where it's just painful. I remember watching a demo in Best Buy that was showing the difference between HD and regular from a scene in Cars. It was a racing scene in a stadium and you could see every freaking expression on each car in the audience. THAT'S NOT NORMAL. My EYE'S don't see that clearly. If computer animation is trying to hard to mimic real-life STOP TRYING TO 1UP IT, YOUKNOW? There's such a thing as focal blurs.... rhghnggh.
It just... bothers me. When TV starts looking more crisp than real-life.

I've heard there's a cable channel called the Hub that plays Fraggle Rock currently and I know there's some channel (it might also be the Hub) that plays old Sesame Streets (which are the beeeeessstttttt!) I'm guessing they were probably 80's-ish Sesame Streets though because Elmo wasn't a regular character until around the early 80's I think. GOD WHY DO I KNOW THIS. There are a lot of older old school Street fans who have it out for Elmo 'cause they feel like he ruined it or like he took over and rules the street with an iron... faux-fur... fist. Or something. Personally I think he's a great character and I'm in love with the guy who performs him, but he really doesn't need a whole 15-minute segment to himself. :/ COUGHELMO'SWORLDCOUGH.
That being said, he's kind of a riot when he's unscripted.
Did you see him on Jimmy Fallon a few weeks ago?
[link]
If you're gonna' watch just one of those, make it the 2nd one. Kevin Clash plays him more like a bratty 3-year-old off-camera. x) It's kind of precious.
OH GOD you've got me going on Sesame Street now
DON'T HESITATE TO TELL ME TO SHUT UP. XD

And Veggie Taaaaales! Oh my God I love Veggie Tales. XD Haha... I'll admit. I caught a glimpse of some of the newer ones and the animation is fantastic nowadays....
but yeah, man... that was a clever show. Religious or not, I thought it was enjoyable. X)
