FIRST, I didn't know if I should put this under TV/Movies ... 'cause it's technically NOT. I was going to put it under books/novels.. since I guess this is techincally ...based on the screenplay/libretto version of RENT. But who cares anyway? I just decided to make it the same as all my other RENTdeviations. XD
Okay, so this is the watercolor from my advanced drawing and painting class. I'm comming to like watercolor. XD I wanted to do something different though, because when I think watercolor, I think of skies and trees. SKIES AND TREES. Background scenery. And there was no way in hell I was going to do that. I wouldn't mind painting my OWN sky or something.. .but I don't want to reproduce a picture of fecking clouds or some junk like that. XD
And I already had a RENT theme going... with my project before this one... so I kept it up. Next we're doing still lifes. GOD I HATE STILL LIFES. MORE THAN ANYTHING. Oh well, at least we get to arange our own and use our own objects. ^^ That might be fun.
ANYWAY about the picture... it's a reproduction of this photo from the OBC of RENT when it was first on B-Way. It's in my big RENTbible coffeetable book thing... lots of cool pictures in there... but I found it on the internet and changed the colors around to make it more interesting to paint in photoshop. And it's at a cool angle. At least I think so. I wanted to do something different, you know? Not your everyday run-of-the-mill TREES AND SKY OMG watercolor. Not that there's no such thing as creativity when it comes to watercolor or anything... I just... I don't know. Wanted to do something more challenging or... I don't know.
I'd give you a reference pic link, but the site I got it from isn't working for some reason... and it's 3 am and I need to go to bed. Maybe I'll link it later.
I got it from some image gallery at this huge Adam Pascal website or something...
Frankly, I think the image gallry should be called the "Adam PasGALLERY". That would be totally gnarly.
But that's just me.
Umm..
Yes, so there's plenty of things about it that aren't... uh... accurate, but whatever. It's still close enough. XD Hahaha.
And that thing by Roger's shoulder is bothering me. I think it's his guitar in the background, but the pic was a little blurry and I really couldn't tell.
The hardest thing was Mark's face. WHY DO YOU MAKE SUCH FUNNY FACES ANTHONY RAPP? Oh well, you're awesome so it's okay. But srsfknly.
I was going to call this "We're REALLY not gonna' pay..." because I already have that one called... yeah. But I decided that internet gamer talk was better. What did that phrase originate from anyway? I see it alot. You know, "IN UR BASE, SETTIN UP UR BOMB,"... uh.. "IN UR WESTERN SKIES, DEFIYIN UR GRAVITY,"...etc. Where did it start?
Um.. yes, I think that is all.
I don't feel the need to copyright Roger and Mark because this isn't necesarrily obsessive nerd fanart, but a reproduction of a slight photomanip. But I will anyway, just because I like to do it~! And J-Lar deserves it.
Mark, Roger, etc. (c) Jonathan Larson Original photo by one of two guys whose names I don't remember, and am too lazy to go look up in my big book of RENT. ^^ Just know, that if you are the photographer, this is my way of giving you your credit. Don't sue me. Please. I love you.

I *think* it's from Halo or something similarly popular, and the original phrase is "I'm in us base, killing ur dudes".

Wow, awesome work! And you say you did this with watercolors? *_* That’s ironic, because I just completed my second assignment in my Illustration class with watercolors, as well—but, unlike yours, my work turned out like total crap. I seriously hate using watercolors (probably I suck so much with them). >_< But anyway, your painting really looks fantastic! I only wish I could’ve had your skills on my latest assignment, because I think it would’ve turned out better. Lol.
And btw, I, too, think of skies and trees when using watercolors. XD (In fact, that was a good majority of what I colored in my most recent project…ugh). But the fact that you intentionally avoided that type of imagery only makes your picture that much awesomer! Really great work on the coloring of the skin, and especially the shadows and highlights! ^_^
