yes you can dream and who knows so dreams have become reality this is such a neat idea I don’t see why not I mean some of the animations out there aren't nearly as entertaining and I’ve just seen a sneak peek lol and yes I did think the walk was intentional :D I can’t wait to see what else you’re going to do :3

@00:35Yeah.... I agree. I felt that it was too long too. But I wanted to keep the kid's face on screen long enough for the viewer to get the idea that his pupil was a power button. Which is a little pointless I guess, 'cause you just see it in the next shot anyway.
But yeah, I see what you mean and I agree. Thanks!

As my 2nd Semester Sophomore Final I decided to take my animatic ([link]) and see how far into it I could possibly get in the time I'd been given, then take a wild guess as to how long it might take me to composite the whole thing digitally, and stop animating in time to have time to do that (still following?)... so it was very much just an extensive case of 'winging it'.

I would've loved to get the whole thing done, but there just wasn't time. I still think I got a decent start on it though.... I tend to rush through my animations at first, sketching out rough lines to make sure the movement is right... then I go back in to clean them up a little and give some sort of, you know, form to those mess of lines... and all of that works just fine for me. But I get it in the computer and play it back and realize that ALL MY SCENES ARE RIDICULOUSLY SHORT. So I had to kind of fake some animation and cut lots of corners.... and even then, the animation I DIDN'T fake, it's still, like... I don't know. Just messy. I didn't bother to clean up the lines much (which was sort of intentional. I like the sketchy look), but some parts it's just like... GLARING MISTAKES. Why does his hair change shape like that? Why is he missing a...? OH GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE?! Or not done?!! xD hahaha.

I also learned a little more about After Effects. I'm slowly but surely going to fall head over heels for it, but it's still a rough, painful road to get to that point. I somehow managed to get this... text... thing... going on... with moe-bot's(*) monitor. I don't even remember how. It was MINUTES UPON MINUTES of dicking around with things until I made it happen. So that was cool.
I'd wanted to use some kind of particle effects or something to give some sort of secondary movement in the backgrounds.... but that's another task for another day.
I know it should be like the easiest thing ever but whatever. I'll pick up on it sooner or later.

So... yeah! Pretty much I think my only outstanding regret is that I just need to man-up and put more into the actual animation. I end up skimping out in places where this type of animation clearly shouldn't... skimp. Hahaha.

Learning experiences all around. Huzzah.

(*)moe-bot, as in the japanese slang, moe ([link]), as he was deemed by :iconannisoptera:.
:iconclawshawt: has also dubbed him Rodney though.
THE CHOICE IS YOURS.

Enjoy!

@01:09I'd like to, yes! And at this point I need to do something for my senior film.... it's a toss-up between this and another story idea I have. But I'm leaning heavily towards this. Either way, I'd like to complete it at some point! : D

Thanks for your interest! Any suggestions? Critique, advice, etc? Something you'd like to see or something that wasn't clear? I'd love to have any feedback or input!

I really like the sketchy look you gave it and your art style is really cool to watch. It’s not super precise so you can tell that it’s not going to be too serious despite the washed out and kind of dark colors which emphasize on the end of the world type thing (y2k and what not) and not too sketchy that its annoying it’s just right to give it an air of whimsy.
I really love your story that has been done so far, in both videos; you have a lot you can play with. The whole human with a strange robotic kid and the robots past and the whole ending of the world and what lies ahead. I’m really interested to see where it is going to go what this world you have created is like! Also I like the way the main character walks it is kind of comical :P This just looks like such a fun project to work on please please do more :D

Thanks! The sketchiness is actually just 'cause I didn't have time to clean it up, but I ended up just pretending I meant it to be sketchy all along. It could be a really cool aesthetic if I didn't do it so sloppily... when I go back in and finish this I'm going to redo a lot of the animation. There's a whoooooole bunch of mistakes and weird jumps that make no sense. XD

There is actually a whole backstory with the human character that I'm contemplating hinting at or lacing into the intro somewhere.... he's actually from space. Not an alien, just a human from space. Haha... they both have backgrounds actually but they're not relevant enough to the plot to bother explaining... Because like you said, the ambiguity of the whole "end of the world and what lies ahead" thing could make for interesting stories later on.... I'm thinking maybe if I treat this short like a pilot episode that could be a possibility. Maybe. Haha.... like their backgrounds and stuff could be explored later on. As if it'd actually become a show... haha, I CAN DREAAAAM.

And yeah, he has a funny walk. Glad you picked up on that... I hope it looks intentional and not just like I don't know how to animate a walk-cycle. XD haha.

Anyway, thankyou so much for your input! : D Like I said, I'm thinking about using this for my senior thesis, so we'll see! Hopefully there will be more to come.

Oh, uh... I'm oddly humbled that you'd ask! XD Haha.

He said.... ohhhh god let's see if I can remember. I was too busy standing in front of everyone being really embarrassed and trying to point out all my mistakes before someone caught them for me. (Lol, like everyone else in the class.)

The one thing I distinctly remember him saying though was that if character animation was what I wanted to do, I'm just about right where I need to be. He said that if a goal of mine would be to get a job doing Disney feature work, I'm on the right track. Probably said there are some things that need fine tuning, but that overall it had a really great liveliness to it or... something. I don't remember. He pretty much only had good things to say though, and some really positive critiques which is a relief. I just... I don't remember what they were. XD If they were terrible I would've remembered better I bet.

The last portion of the my final critique was the class/teacher/me reasoning through the idea of "to finish or not to finish". Which ultimately resounded with, "I totally want to see it finished, and it'd make a great summer project, but if you're tired of it and want to move on, it leaves off at a point that's relatively satisfying enough, so it's up to you." ^^; Aaaaaaaaaaand that's about it.

I do. Well... I wanna' do anything that'll pay me. XD Actually I think what I really want to do is storyboards. But I tend to focus on characters anyway... so I might as well hone it.

I really want to finish it over summer. I feel like half of my summer is gone though. I know it's not, I just... it feels like that. I'm in the middle of trying to get a job, doing commissions, ignoring my comic, and also having to deal with personal issues (not mine... I'm pretty stable. But the people around me.) I think maybe once some things get straightened out I'll start on it... 'cause I really would like to finish it. But there's no deadline looming over my head anymore so... haha, we'll see. It's not like I'm not motivated to do it, but I'm that person that has like, 20 different things I'm constantly thinking about doing or making and so some of 'em have to get ignored. Or all of them, if I pick up my ukulele. Godddd I need to get rid of that thing. I sit on the porch for hours just playing it like a goddamn hillbilly. XD

Long response is long. ^^;

@01:09I think so far you've done a great job! I kind of like the flat color look you have right now, but I know that's just because you didn't have time to finish it. :XD:

I think you have the way the different characters move (I know there's a term for it, I'm just brain dead right now) down. There's an obvious difference between the two and I think you've done a marvelous job! It'll be awesome if you can finish this some day! :D

Hmmm... that is odd though. I haven't noticed any problems with it yet... deviantArt's film player is a little different than most embedded players though (in that you can pause it and comment at a specific timestamp), so I don't know... what kind of errors it typically runs into. XC I hope it works out though!

I think what may have played a part is that we had your story fresh in our heads, because we had just finished the animatics not too long ago. So, we already were familiar with what was going to happen and didn't need as much time to "get it" back then.

Now that we have all had time to look at our own things for the past few weeks, we need those time cushions to process what's going on. It's a tricky game. Mine somehow always end up too long.
